^ maybe Duracell paid them off to put that in. I agree it is odd, except for an initial higher brightness from primary cells there is no reason why it shouldn't work fine with rechargeables.
Maybe they were afraid someone was going to put 10440 Li-Ion cells in which might fry it... all the time I see people doing it to 1 x AAA lights and not realizing they only get away with it because a single cell is much closer to the forward voltage of an LED, and often people don't get away with it and fry their light.

On the plus side, the 150 lumen rating (on fresh batteries) is achievable unlike some of the claims other generics make.
