"This radio will transmit on some business frequencies as well as the 2 meter and 70 cm ham bands (VHF and UHF). You need a ham "technician" license (the beginning one) for ham transmission and a business license to use those frequencies. However, this radio is NOT certified for use on all the frequencies it can transmit on. I don't understand how they are allowed to import it like this, but they did. Be aware that, for example, you can use the licesne-free MURS channels on this radio, but if you use the high power (4 watt) setting, your are using illegal power on that frequency. GMRS will work, but (as a shock to many) GMRS requires a license! Some of the MARS/CAP VHF frequencies work, but you must not only have a ham license but a MARS/CAP license to use this (and don't even try it without it---you will absolutely get busted). It will transmit on some public service frequencies, too (like the guys running your town's snowplows, etc.). It is illegal to transmit there without a specific license in your area, which you do not and will never have (unless you work for the company in question). Basically, this is a ham radio, though, and is legal as a ham radio if you get a license. Not hard at all---2nd graders have done it."
