With ASUS STRIX GTX 970 still with a $320 (AR-$10) other than the power saving during gaming the 970 isn't the 40% increase in cost it's made out to be. Hard to find reviews that pit two customs like this 1000Mhz ASUS, and a pedestrian clocked 970 custom like the STRIX, vying each other lately or at least since Omega drivers came along. Honestly, I'll bet for @1440p which is what you'd be looking at for this class card, they spar better than we're told to believe (while neither apropos for 4k).
Here's an $335 -AR$15 EVGA 970 SSC (1342Mhz Boost) against a PowerColor 290 PCS+ (1040Mhz) some of highest O-o-B clocks. In this review the difference in power is like 25%, honestly the difference for the average gamers power bill in a months' time a few dollars, it will take something approaching 18 mo's to make $60 on the parents the electric bill. http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/81985-evga-geforce-gtx-970-super-superclocked/

Here in New York, 1 kWh of electricity costs me 32¢ (I got charged $93.69 for 301 kWh in December)
I was thinking more along the line of those $300~310 Gigabyte and EVGA cards. Comes with 2 good games that can be sold on for $60~70 bringing the cost of 970 down to $240 effectively. The card being faster also means it might last me 1 more year before I upgrade to something else.
^ Well yea in if I go into Teir3 usage it costs that much here, but still you'd need to game 5-8 a day to start seeing true savings.
Yes if willing to the games it can have merit, but since those titles are both bludgeoned with Gamework good luck finding folks who want them, a lot of folks have and foresee issues... I'd console more like $25 each. As to viability of either a year from now @1440p, the 5% additional performance might not be a prejudicial as having only 3.5Gb of useable memory.

What's the thing about Gamework? You are thinking too many people have the coupons so price will be around $25? You are right about that as The Witcher is $30 on now. The single game with AMD is even cheaper so pointless to sell that.
I picked up a MSI 970 100 million edition card for $313 -AR yesterday. Comes with the 2 games and should be a very good card; basically a 970 4G + back plate. Now all I have to do is either get a new PSU or force the MSI 970 to accept 2 6-pins instead of 1 6 and 1 8-pins plug.
Thanks Casecutter for giving me advice on video card while I am shopping around.
^ Pei, good price for one of those. Where did you find it for that $310 -AR. As free games go, they hardly influence me as being of significance to such deals. Selling them after the fact is hardly an improver... the deal has to stand on its own for the most part.

was selling an open boxed unit and the rep told me the box is included for the $10 rebate and instructions to the game codes will be email to me after 7 days.
If AMD still have that 290X + GTA 5 bundle for $250 I will get that but that's not to be. I am upgrading graphic cards just for GTA. Still rocking a 5770 after I sold the 4870 I played GTA 4 with because it is too hot at idle.
