this is a silly product. all you do with this is add one fourth of a cup of vinegar two three fourths of a cup of water and put it in the microwave and turn it on. when the stuff is evaporated you are supposed to be able to just wipe down the Walls. I tried one of these gizmos and it did almost nothing so instead of spending your money on that you could try just boiling some water with vinegar in it and see if it works for you.
i cover my food with a paper towel and the microwave almost never gets gross.
my wife claims she can taste when it touches her food. we finally got a plastic thing that goes over...but i don't love the idea of microwaving plastic (albeit "microwave safe"), so I usually just use a paper towel and don't tell her.

Just use something metal to prevent food splatter.
