I just nuke a cup or in bulk, the glass tea pitcher itself in the microwave. Microwaves are ideal for heating water. Supposedly they are about 25% less efficient than an electric stovetop using a pan (not sure about a kettle with greater mass and higher radiating surface area) but the electric cost difference is less than a tenth of a cent per cup.

I'm sure it takes special gear to get a pot of water that's been boiled just right. Nothing else will do.
