as a kid those built-in crayon sharpeners never worked well, made the box leak crayon shaving out the bottom, and eventually a crayon tip broke off inside of it, ruining it (until an adult/parent opened the bottom of the box, spilling whatever crayon shavings hadn't yet leaked, and backed the broken-off crayon tip out of the sharpener with a thin paperclip, knife blade or something else thin enough to squeeze between the blade and plastic molding, but sometimes knicking the blade and causing it to cut grooves when sharpening crayons). yes, i have no good memories of those darn things. ;)

That would make too much sense. It's easier to just pay teachers more.
Also searched kmart.com for the crayons and got the same result every time
