Google Play support was notified that there is no way to trigger the 50% off as of midday 12/22/2016. The support person tried and couldn't make it happen either. The offer is good until the 28th, so keep checking, but don't order anything until you see a deal activation button or link at Google Play.. If you complete the transaction with PayPal, and didn't activate the deal at Google Play, you'll have to call Google and have the order canceled.

Google has confirmed that the 50%-off offer is dead and unlikely to be restored before the original deadline of December 28th. A new promotion will take it's place...eventually.
