Excellent
Amazon
reviews, but I wonder how long it will take to make up the cost of these in electricity savings.

^ Depends entirely on how much power the thingy you're shutting off was using. If you consider interest on the money over time & that you might be leaving lights on in the room for longer while you go around switching things on & off, then you might never break even.

If you step on your cat while groping behind your furniture to switch something off & then have to pay for an emergency room or at least vet visit, you may never break even.

If your spouse wacks you over the head with a frying pan because s/he doesn't want to have to keep switching things on and off with every use, and never having the clock display the right time too, then you have to go to the ER, you may never break even.

If on the other hand you have it powering off a modern printer with wifi that uses about 5W in standby mode, & we'd have to divide up the cost PER switch so a 5 pack at $30 would be $6 each.

If we discount the power on usage hours of the printer and assume it would be asleep 24/7, then that's 43.8KW/year. If nat'l electric cost averages $0.12/KWH over the life of the printer then you'd save $5.26 a year, so it would take almost 14 months, although most modern consumer electronics do not waste as much power in standby as a printer with wifi, and some things have a battery backup so if that backup is important you may find yourself buying a lot of batteries and/or higher priced rechargeables for it.

Further, if your printer is powered off then it may have to run longer because it has to boot, so your computer is on longer and your lights are on longer, etc. waiting for that to happen. This extra wait might make you miss the bus to work and then you have to spend money on a taxi, or you might be running to the bus stop, slip on ice and again go to the ER.

THEN the question becomes "what's your 0bamacare doing for you?" If you are indigent like 0bama wants, then your ER visit might end up being free but you still missed work and got fired.
