The bass in my profile pic here was about 7-8 pounds...at least that's what I estimated it at. It was released alive and in good health back into the pond behind my house for all who want to know.
When this scale finally arrives from China in a month I can get a more accurate estimation of weight on future catches.
I have caught many thousands of good fish over the course of 47 years of fishing experience. I am long past the days of wanting to exaggerate weights or of holding a fish out to the camera to make it appear larger than it actually is. A nice fish is a nice fish regardless of the numbers and nowadays I'm not as concerned with keeping a scorecard or catching bigger and bigger fish as I am with monitoring the health, growth rates, average size and biomass sustained by my local fishing waters here in southern Florida. I also like to monitor the impact of invasive species such as snakeheads, Mayan cichlids, walking catfish and Plecostomus so having a scale will help me do some quick calculations and get a truer idea of just how much they might be hurting native fish populations.
This scale should also help me weigh some of my heavier packages for sales that exceed the capacity of my 5kg postal scale instead of having someone hand them to me while I stand on a bathroom scale...lol.
I didn't really need this item, but at under $4 why not.
Just came up with another use for this item in an effort to justify its purchase...lol.
I like to smoke large pieces of beef brisket and I also cure and smoke my own pastrami or "smoked meat" I also cure and cold smoke full sides of salmon. This item will help me calculate yield off of the primal cuts of beef I purchase and make my lox taste just that much better knowing its just as good and exactly how much cheaper it is than Russ & Daughters.
