I'm sure there's a warehouse full of these and Home Depot is still trying to get rid of them.
If you leave these CFLs turned on, perhaps they would last up to 9 years. In the real-world, where lights are turned on and off, my experience was that 3 out of 4 of these CFLs stopped working within 4 months. I didn't bother using the 4th one. It's sitting at the back of the cupboard.
Meanwhile I switched to LEDs with a nice warm 2700K light and haven't looked back.
Maybe I've just been lucky, but my CFLs have held up very well even in areas where they're turned on and off several times a day. I use 5 "indoor" CFLs for outside lights. They're on for from about 7-14 hours nightly and I haven't changed any of them in years.
This 4 pack costs only $1.97 at my local HD here in Pennsylvania. Still hard to justify LED with these kind of prices. 40W isn't much light though, I prefer 100W equivalent in most of my rooms.
You know how much UV can be emitted at even 1000watts? Well I don't but I'm sending some to Michelle Bachmann for XMAS. By the way I mowed the yard yesterday, I live by Lake Michigan.
