EDIT: the bulbs in Ben's Hot Deal are 5,000 hour bulbs, the 99 cent single bulbs are 2,000 hour bulbs. Lowes also has a 6-pack of the 5,000 hour bulbs for $9.98 (a slightly better per-unit price than Ben's Hot Deal). I thought that most good LED bulbs were closer to 20,000 hours.
You can't really go by lifetime ratings except during the same development period from the same manufacturer, as there aren't any bulbs that should be spec'd more than 10K hours if that, unless ALL components in the bulb have an equal or higher rating. Specifically, electrolytic capacitors usually don't.
That doesn't necessarily mean they won't last >10K hrs, but the situation isn't all that different from CFL bulb owners not getting the lofty lifetime hours they expected. Even so, 2K hrs does seem really short for an LED bulb.
I noticed the 4 pack Friday for $10, but didn't want to drop $10 on something I wasn't sure about. I'll probably swing by there tomorrow, and get a couple of the 4 packs.
The 2-packs of both the 40W and 60W equivalent Utilitech LED bulbs are on sale today at Lowes for $2.98 plus tax. This is both in-store and online. These have a 3-year warranty (but are rated for 5000 hours / 4.57 years) and are warm white 3000K bulbs.
